GIO Workers Compensation – ‘Building safer and healthier workplaces’
As part of GIO’s 2023 Workers Compensation proposition ‘Building safer and healthier workplaces’ we are excited to be offering clients a blend of online and face to face training developed in collaboration with experts in mental health, rehab and legal partners as well as our own risk and claims specialists.
The calendar for 2023 will include courses on Best Practice Return to Work and Injury Management, Mental Health First Aid and Managing Psychosocial Risks Workshops (see list below). Our team of dedicated Workers Compensation Key Account Managers will provide details for your clients to register for the below courses.
Additionally, we will be organising bespoke workers compensation courses for our broker partners and will be releasing a calendar of training and events for brokers which will include unique opportunities for professional development and networking with the work health and safety community.
Keep an eye out for training dates in the coming weeks and for more information on workers compensation training contact us at workerscomp_product@suncorp.com.au or touch base with your Key Account Manager.
Legislation update – Tasmania
Effective 1 March 2023 the following legislative updates will apply to GIO Workers Compensation cover in Tasmania.
Presumptive Provisions for Firefighters
- Employees of the Bushfire Risk Unit of the Tasmanian Fire Service will be included in the definition of ‘occupational fire-fighter’, which entitles them to the presumption that when a fire-fighter meeting relevant criteria is diagnosed with a specified cancer, it is presumed in the absence of evidence to the contrary, that fire-fighting was a substantial contributing factor to the disease.
Entitlement to Weekly Compensation Payments for Older Workers
- The duration of time before the age-related cessation provisions apply to those injured close to reaching their pension age will be extended to two years.
